“PIRAEUS MARINE CLUB 1st INTERNATIONAL IACS CONFERENCE, 22nd April 2021”

The inaugural edition of our new annual event was held on Earth Day 2021 free of charge in front of a global audience of members, colleagues and friends, measuring several hundred Shipping professionals and decision makers.

During the first event of its kind globally, respected members of the Greek Shipping Community and deleagates from the foremost Calassification Societies enaged in open and at times vigorous dialogue. Highlighting the constructive elements of a symbiotic relationship spanning two centuries in pursuit of a common interest: the safety for crews, vessels and the marine environment during the seaborne carriage of 90% of the world’s goods.

“When we navigate, regardless of our chosen course, a magnetic needle pointing to True North is the best single point of reference. IACS members should be offering their much needed integrity to the IMO before regulations are passed, just as we calibrate our compass pre departure… and not post arrival..” Yannis Triphyllis, Executive Committee, Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, PMC Board Member and event organiser.

The 3 hour event, introduced by PMC Chairwoman Ms. Irene Daifa, featured three distinct panel discussions between IACS members & Maritime Industry representatives focusing on:

-Sustainable Shipping: New Regulations & Alternative Energy Sources

Moderated by Mr. Panos Zachariadis, IMO Rep. for UGS, HCS

Digitalisation: Big Data Analytics, Cyber Vulnerabilities & Remote Surveys

Moderated by Dr. George D. Pateras, Chairman, Hellenic Chamber of Shipping,
